Guandu Wharf is located on the Tamsui River at a strategic point between Guanyinshan and Datun Mountain. In earlier years, the wharf was the landing point for many mainland Chinese immigrants settling in northern Taiwan. The activity at the wharf began to taper off as silting of the river reduced accessibility to boat traffic.
